How to Points Match Marriott Reservation

A month ago I booked vacation for Summer 2025 for a Marriott Resort, and I have been checking the rates every few days to see if the rates have gone down from the points price that I paid. At the time of the original booking it cost me 359,000 points for a 6 night stay. After a month of checking the site for my same booked dates, I was able to find that the current points offering was 323,000 points.
Rather than cancel the current reservation and re-book on my own via the website (what could possibly go wrong, I did not want to take any chances since I did not have enough points in my bank to re-book the lower rate if the point refund was not instant). I first tried to call the Marriott Reservation line; after 10 + mins of waiting on hold and fighting with the robo-assistant I reached a human who could not help me because their reservation system was down and I should call back in 2 hours.
I did not want to wait around those 2 hours in the event that the price drop was a mistake in their system so I figured I would see if the website would allow me to modify my reservation without cancelling. Much to my surprise it did and was much easier than I would have expected.

To match a current offer that is lower than a current booking; Log into Marriott and navigate to your current reservation, then self "View/Modify Room". It will take you to your current room reservation details page where you would once again select "Modify Room". Now it will display your currently selected room as well as the other options, but to keep the same room for the lower rate you just select the same currently selected room and you are set with the lower rate.
Once I completed the booking with the updated rate the points difference was instantaneously credited back to my account. Far easier than I would have imaged it would be to get the hotel to price match.
